Boots No 7 Hot Cloth Cleanser Review

Boots No 7 Hot Cloth Cleanser

I know it's probably old fashioned but I do like the feeling of washed skin, although for me soap is horrendous, I love Hot Cloth Cleansers as they give the best of both worlds,  gentle cleansing with added moisture.  I do double cleanse,  we do it with our hair so why not our skin ? and with these type of cleansers you are left squeaky clean without the squeaky skin :) win, win

I will try any brand of Hot Cloth Cleanser that I spot and do like to alternate them, I think as with hair your skin gets used to one product and needs to be kept on it's toes so to speak.

Boots no7 Hot cloth cleanser Review | The Lavender Barn

You will have seen from a previous post my review on Superdrug hot cloth Cleanser which also includes a bit about Liz Earle, that I am a huge fan of these products.

Moving on, Boot's No7 Hot Cloth Cleanser is probably my favourite at the moment, it falls between Liz Earle and Superdrug Price wise at 9.95.

There is currently a 3 for 2 offer on Here .

This cleanser comes in a large 200ml Pump dispenser that lasts ages and is Hypo-allergenic suitable for all skin types, it comes with it's own muslin cloth  which acts a gentle exfoliator and smells gorgeous, really fresh and clean. The instructions tell you to massage onto dry skin, wring the cloth under comfortably hot water and lay it over your face to open pores and relax, then use the cloth to lightly polish off the cleanser.

I personally don't use it as instructed, I simply wash and go, I think you if you had time to lay in the bath with this on it would be fabulous although I have yet to try it.  Although it doesn't say on the product that you can use it to remove eye make up, and I am not recommending that you do, I have done it on a lazy day with non waterproof with no ill effects.

All in all this is one that I would 100% continue to buy, good value, good quality, and leaves your skin feeling clean and moisturised.

Argentum La Potion Infinie Review

Argentum La Potion Infinie

Argentum la potion infinie review
I cannot describe how excited I was to be given the opportunity to try this cream, as at £147.00 it would need to be seriously and I mean SERIOUSLY good for me to buy it !

Let me start by saying I am not a Beauty expert, and this is the opinion of a very ordinary woman :)

I have in the past tried high end cream like La Prairie and Creme de la Mere, and quite honestly not seen what the hype is about, and I don't believe in the adage that you get what you pay for in skincare nowdays as there are some fabulous brands out there without high end prices, ok moving on, let's talk about la Potion Infinie, it arrived in a black box totally full of shredded paper with a ton of literature, first off I would usually freak at such packaging, however it was used solely to house the jar for protection and of course can be
recycled.

Argentum la potion infinie review

The literature that comes with the product is lovely if not a little complicated, you can register your Jar online to ensure that you are getting the original patented formula, which is pretty cool to be fair, I once got conned with some fake GHD straighteners and only discovered it on checking registration online, so I like this idea, coz at that money you want it to be genuine !

Argentum Apothecary is based on 12 Archetypes and each jar contains 1 of 12 cards I got the Sage card.  apparently these cards enhance your energy ?  to be honest I am not into that sort of thing but if you are it's all a bit fabulous and meaningful.

Argentum la potion infinie review

Moving on to the Jar itself, it is a Very dark Violet almost black heavy weight glass which has been specifically designed to protect the product from harmful light and keep your product fresh, it also comes with a little plastic spatula to make sure no mucky germs get into the jar from your fingers.

From the moment you open the lid the smell of the cream is expensive, it reminds you of the most luxurious spa treatment ever, really hard to describe not flowery or perfumed as such but a beautiful ultra clean fragrance. This is high end luxury and you really can tell.

This product is 99.5 % Natural and the first ingredient you see on the list is Colloidal Silver (Hydrosol) there is a whole host of natural ingredients one being Caffine known for it's skin tightening properties, I wont go into the whole list as I am not a skincare expert, and we only need to know if does what it says on the box.

Ok, here we go, From the very first use you can visibly see a difference, the cream is not too thick it smooths on easily and just melts into your skin, a little goes a very long way with this product, so managed to do my neck and decolletage easily with one scoop. Over time my skin has improved on a daily basis, you can use it twice a day, I chose not to, so only used it in the mornings, it was enough to see super fast results.

Ok, Price !  No it isn't cheap at £147.00 However, it is the only cream you will need, it covers face, eyes and neck, also you honestly don't need a primer as it leaves a beautiful base for foundation.  So when you think of the price of your  Serum, moisturiser, eye cream, neck cream, and primer, I think you would probably be looking at well over the cost of this jar, although it is an ouch moment to pay that out in one hit i know.
That said, Should you buy it ? YES, Should you put it on your Birthday or Christmas list ?  YES I think you should, and I don't think you would be disappointed at the results, smoother, more refined and definitely less wrinkled skin, whats not to love ?

If you want to treat yourself it is

L'Oreal Paris Infallible Nail Polish Review

L'Oreal Paris Infallible Nail Polish

I have only recently got really into the whole nail thing again, having spent 3 years with tips on it has taken me a while of looking ugly without nails to get them back into a good condition, as you know acrylics kill your real nails, but I was a white tip fan.

L'Oreal Paris infallible nail polish varnish review. no UV light required

Anyway, my fridge drawer is now looking pretty with lots of various colours. YES Fridge, it's a tip I learnt years ago, they last a zillion times longer and go on better, see Nanna knows best lol x

Yesterday while doing a banking run I once again fell into Superdrug as you do, and once again not needing anything ended up at the L'Oreal stand, there was a valid reason to be fair I wanted another Infallible Gloss in 210 Disco Ball, I love it that much I wanted a spare for the car.

L'Oreal Paris infallible nail polish varnish review. no UV light required

Digressing.......I spotted the infallible Nail Polish which the ad stand said replaces the need for a UV Light, well !!!  that's got to be good me thinks, it looked just gorgeous, a double ended tube with the polish at one end and the clear gel type varnish at the other. and of course it had to be pink ;)  the shade is actually 005 irresistible Bonbon.  a gorgeous non sparkle bubblegummy pink. at 7.99 there is a pretty good range of colours to choose from.

My nails did need doing so it was money well spent ha ha, On first thought I thought it may be a little awkward to use with the long tube, duhhhhhhh it comes apart leaving you with the two separate bottles,
( clever) anyway, I really wanted to love this as I am a huge fan of L'Oreal but I'm not sure that Love would be the right word, it applies in a rather gloopy way but is actually pretty thin on coverage, I kept on with three coats in the end to try and stop it looking patchy, I gave up as I got bored waiting for each coat to dry, at my age I ain't got too much time left lol .  Next the Gel topcoat, which was actually lovely, and give it due it somehow made the polish look better and less patchy, the gloss is amazing, truthfully like a Gel Mani.

L'Oreal Paris infallible nail polish varnish review. no UV light required

All in all they look OK, if not a bit thick, would I buy again ?  I don't think so unless the lasting power is amazing ( will get back to you on that one )

To be fair I have not tried any other L'Oreal polishes since getting my nails back, so I honestly cant say if this is a full representation of their varnishes, so it could be me.

Indeed Laboratories Hydraluron Moisture Boosting Mask Review

Indeed Labs Hydraluron Moisture Boosting Mask

I do like the idea of a little bit of pampering, and have to admit to loving a face mask, as you will tell from my review of  .

I am very fond of Indeed Laboratories as a Company, the products I have tested in the past have all been extremely good and I would say good value for money for the quality of product you get.

Review of Indeed Laboratories Hydraluron moisture boosting Face Mask

These Moisture boosting masks are new to me,  They come in individual  sealed foil sachets and there are 4 in the pack.  The masks themselves are pre cut face shaped soft cloth, and are soaked in the moisture solution, to be fair you could probably seal it back up and use twice.

PLEASE do not answer the door to the postman, poor bugger will run for the hills, the only way I can describe the look of these face masks is an after surgery bandage lol, which actually is pretty cool as it gives you a giggle while making you gorgeous.

Indeed Laboratories say these masks will keep you moisturised for up to 24 hours due to 3d hyaluronic  acid, which with each use will leave the skin feeling softer, more plumped ( we like a bit of plumping ) glowing and smoother.

Do they work ?  Yes indeed  ( labs) they do !
You need to lie down and relax, or else it will fall off your face, who needs an excuse for a little lie down ?
after the 15 minutes of relaxing just remove the mask, bin it, or seal it back up and leave the solution to sink into your skin and dry, it truly feels fabulous.
At the time of writing/buying these are on half price offer in

If I am honest I wouldn't pay 19.99 I think £5.00 per mask makes it something you wouldn't want to do weekly, but at £2.50 they are fabulous.

Perms , Max Factor Pan stick And Shaved Brows.

I Suddenly had a thought about how far the beauty industry has moved on since I was young,.....yes I do know it was a while ago :)  However not that long that it feels like a zillion years ago my Mum was spitting on her mascara !

For those of you too young to know what this was and are probably heaving at the thought, mascara came in a block with a strange little flat brush that you needed to wet to apply, well no one in their right mind was going out to the sink, so it was common place to spit on the block, and talk about value for money, my Mum used to whip over her brows with it too.

thelavenderbarn.blogspot.co.uk

Now, while my Mum and her friends were going for the Liz Taylor look with big black hair and matching big black eyebrows, spit mascara had the brows covered, the hair.....that was another matter, Packet hair dye as it was known was so far removed from today's products it's crazy, one of the weirdest experiences I had as a kid, and trust me there were a few :)  was the day, Glam Mumma decides we are going shopping, up the high street ( Streatham) and is wearing her fabulous white linen duster coat, when along comes a typical Summer downpour, one of those that runs in the gutters and floods the road !

There was Mum, no brolly trotting along in her winkle picker sling backs, seamed stockings, and DARK BLUE hair dye streaming down her face like something from a horror movie, her coat looked at though it had been washed in ink, apparently the desired colour was Blue/Black lol. Best is, I got a telling off for not telling her it was happening lol.

thelavenderbarn.blogspot.co.uk
Lizzie had a lot to answer for :)

Make up back then consisted of spit mascara, a powder compact, lippie that actually doubled as blusher ha ha, I was often given the lippie cheek treatment by my Nan for looking peaky ! what with that and the spitting on the hanky thing when you had dirt on your face !  ( lot of spit in those days ! )

When I reached the age of stealing this very small stash of products it really was outdated, I was lucky enough to have Rimmel and Max Factor as fav's my very first foundation was Max Factor Pan Stick, which I loved with a passion, mascara was actually in a tube back then, but no brush oh noooooo a very hard plastic comb in the tube, as for the eyebrows........what eyebrows ? it was the thing in school to shave them to within an inch of their life, which is why there is a generation of us wandering around lusting after decent brows.

Now that's a 70's brow !

Look at her lovely curls,  Oh I wanted them, being the perfect Mum,  mine trotted of to the chemist and bought a home perm......yup I can hear you laughing as you know where this is going !

You guessed it, I was the white girl at school with the Blonde Affro,  jeez what a good job I had thick skin ha ha, I was slaughtered by the Black girls.
( thanks Mum )

L'Oreal Paris Infallible Gloss review

My name is Lynda and I am a lip gloss addict, I have been using glosses since the days the Debbie Harry pout was something to copy ha ha, so I think it's fair to say I know my gloop.

I have recently discovered L'Oreal Paris Infallible gloss,  "oh my lord" it is the first time I have ever gone back and re purchased the same brand !
This stuff is the queen of all glosses.

L'Oreal infallible lip gloss
When I bought my first one ( don't laugh ) i thought the sponge applicator was bent ( blush)  It, as I discovered upon trying the gloss is especially designed to fit the contours of your lips, this is pretty flippin cool, if you want a quick lippie touch up without the whole getting the mirror out and looking like a poser thing :) I can do it without looking with this lil magic wand.

Here's what L'Oreal say :

The formula is enriched with hyaluronic acid and shine colour pigments, leaving lips hydrated with a high level of shine. Enjoy a glossy look, without stickiness. The lip shaper applicator contours and hugs lips for a perfect glossy pout, all day.

Yes, I could have read this prior to thinking my wand was bent, but you should know me by know :)

It really is non sticky, goes on like nothing I have tried before and has the very best staying power of any gloss I have tried so far, there is a huge range of colours in both gloss and matt, I am not a lover of matt and went for the shimmer glittery 210 and 505 shade, when I say glittery i don't mean total bling, it is a lovely sparkle without any nasty bits of glitter feeling gritty.

The shades I chose are just perfect for me,

is a lovely soft golden pink

Lighter than picture shows is a gorgeous pale bronze

There are lots of colours to choose from but I found these two the most flattering, but to be honest there are a couple more on my list, I urge you to try these, you honestly won't regret it. I am not being paid to write this it really is true lol

These are currently on offer at the fantastic price of £6.99 buy 2 get one free plus a free make up bag

Wednesday, 12 August 2015

OK, I am standing here looking through the Twitter news feed, pretty bloody impressed that I am attempting to keep up !

This comes from the woman who went to the oven yesterday to get the jacket potatoes out of the oven only to discover a really hot EMPTY oven. hey ho lol.

Back to Twitter, I am still learning the who's whys and wherefores of this groovy piece of techno kit, but something that occurred to me today, was it is one of those things you can take in two ways, you can either see the positive side which is adorable, little quotes that lift you, or advise that you had never heard of, friends that you will never meet, and I do honestly believe real friendships can be made online,

or..........on the other side of things there is quite a dark competitive element of people trying to out do each other in the popularity ranks.........I mean, who bleedin cares?  it reminds me of the example of the girls who had over a thousand Facebook friends, so for her birthday her work colleagues decided to surprise her and send out a party invite to all her *friends*  and come the day of the party, and only 3 turned up !  so the moral has to be, it all means nothing in the great scheme of things. And the battles about ageing that go on, in one camp we celebrate the fact that we are older and quite frankly still bloody gorgeous, probably more so than in our younger years, because now we have the luxury of confidence that only comes with ageing, and in the other camp are women who (understandably so )  don't even want the subject of ageing to raise it's head, I can 100% see that point of view, but I for one feel it's a battle we will never win, as the world values youth, and how lucky are the youngsters today, with so much advise etc at the click of a button, jeez I remember getting the *period* talk and being told where they were hidden in case my Father saw them heaven forbid !

Just realised this is turning into another one of my rambles, so will end here.

Love your thoughts, please, please drop me a lil comment.

Reflexology by Natasha Edwards

Hiya gorgeous people, thanks so much for clicking x

I wanted to have a little chat about well being, we are all totally obsessed with clothes, beauty products etc but what about the inside, the bits you cant see ?

I would not consider myself to be a very spiritual person, in fact I am a pretty ordinary bird, I say it as it is and life for me is pretty much black and white, they only grey is on my roots !

You probably don't know but I have a lifelong illness which is pretty crap and maybe another blog post, but I don't know if it's this condition or getting older that has had me thinking more about alternative health.

I have done a ten day juice detox which actually was bloody fabulous, I didn't want to give it up in the end, but gave in to the *you should eat* crowd lol. I often juice and make green smoothies with the nutribullet which I love, and still I yo yo diet :(   and I do practise Yoga at home, in a fashion ! perfection is underrated lol.
My first venture into massage was a Christmas prez from my grandaughter, where we had a little Spa day............oh my lord, if you have never treated yourself DO IT !  I was so relaxed it was crazy, this bought me into thinking why do we not relax more ?  I don't mean slobbing out on the sofa, I am talking about that deep relaxation space that can only be achieved by specialist hands.

Fortunately for me one of my Girlfriends has recently undergone her Reflexology course ( she is already qualified in massage )  Lucky me, Natasha Edwards or Tash as known to her friends, has magic hands, she first approached me to be her guinea pig as she needed case studies, I didn't hesitate........not because I believed in the power of reflexology, I just fancied a foot massage lol, we did a few sessions and it was all very lovely, however as time has gone on I have found myself actually needing these sessions, the feeling of well being experienced during, and especially after is incredible, it really has made me think about more than the outside of my body, I always try and practise gratitude daily, as I think it is all too easy to think about what we don't have rather than be thankful for the things we do have, someone always has more, and good luck to them it can't impede my happiness, why would it ?  there is that cheesy old saying about * if you love what you have, you have everything you need *  how true is that ?

Please let me know how you look after yourself, what little things you do to feed your soul, I would love to hear your thoughts.

P.S  this is not an advert for my friend, I am not sharing her, unless you live in the Surrey and w Sussex area and beg and bribe me with gifts lol.

Superdrug Face masks Review

I usually buy face masks in sachets as I have no particular favourite, these lil beauties were almost the same price for the tubes as I pay for a sachet so i thought there was nothing to lose by giving them a try.

First up is the Hydrating  vitamin E Face Mask, both are from Superdrug own range, and the lovely thing about Superdrug is that should you not like one of their own brands for any reason they will 100% refund your money.

OK the hydrating mask, a gorgeous smell which for some reason reminded me of summer, totally relaxing and fresh, this thick creamy mask stays on for 10-15 mins long enough for your skin to drink up all that lovely moisture, wipe of excess with a tissue and there you have it, soft hydrated skin, they recommend 2-3 times a week with this one,  the 75 ml tube is enough to give you at least 4 applications.

Next up is the  Detoxifying Dead Sea Mud Mask, as expected it looks like mud, its soft smooth application dries to a solid mask, but will not flake all over your floor, leave on for 10-15 mins and rinse with a soft cloth, this one really does leave your face feeling smooth and thoroughly cleaned. again I would imagine at the very least 4 applications from the tube.

These are a crazy bargain for a lil bit of me time.

Superdrug New CC Cream Review

Superdrug CC Cream

This is my first time trying an own brand CC cream,  and to be fair didn't expect much, but I am a sucker for a bargain and as this was half price from 8.99 to 4.45 I thought I would give it a little try.

I will firstly tell you what Superdrug say.

What is CC Cream ?
CC or Complexion Corrector is the ultimate multi-tasker combining the benefits of an illuminating foundation, an anti-ageing treatment and an SPF15 moisturiser all-in-one creating a seamless complexion in an instant.

I chose medium which was a bit of a risk as there was very limited colour choice, however the shade is perfect and I can imagine it would suit most people unless you are ultra fair.

I wanted this as I do have a bit of a tan but wanted to still wear  "make-up" when going out, my usual foundation was looking a little bit heavy for this weather.  I am not trying this in the hopes that it will replace my usual skincare I simply wanted it for the light foundation use, it is seriously lovely, I applied with a brush over my usual serum and moisturiser, and it gave a super smooth lightweight coverage, I did fear that it may all be a bit greasy, but nope, it was fab, slight downside and this really could have been me using it a little to close to the under eyes, my mascara marked under eyes, I do think that was my fault though !

I think this would be a perfect holiday item as it gives you the feeling of being "dressed" without looking like a full foundation.

I would buy this again, as I honestly cant find anything to fault in it.

Women Vs Women

One of the things I have learned over the years is that it is perfectly ok to value another woman's worth, we all have qualities that we admire in each other, I for example have friends who would jump in a car and drive to foreign lands without the blink of an eye, I have another friend who does Yoga outside before sunrise as it is apparently the most valuable time of day..........I greatly admire these women for their passion and bravery, would I love to be the same ?  yes indeedy, am I jealous ? not at all.

Jealousy is such a destructive emotion, it eats away at your insides like a disease, when I was a teen I was jealous if a friend got a certain pair of shoes before me, or went on a better holiday, for the love of god !

fortunately as I got older I learned it was ok to say someone looked gorgeous, to compliment and flatter a friend, its all part of a normal day now.

So why, do we still see women sniping at each other in an aim to look more popular, wealthy, better dressed etc ?    It's all bullshit, and it actually says far more about the person doing the sniping than the poor soul on the end of the nastiness.  Maybe some women, regardless of age never quite grow up and get out of the playground gang mentality, it's so sad,  we complain on a regular basis that men don't compliment as much as they should, or make us feel bad with the odd negative comment, so bloody what ?  we can, and should, empower each other into loving ourselves enough not to need the approval of others.

Tell your friend she looks lovely, support your co-worker, be nice to other bloggers, non of these things will cost you a penny, but the rewards are fabulous.

Are Teen Models REALLY Selling To Us ?

Please be warned this post may turn into a rant, Let me start by saying I have nothing against teens or young girls, funny enough I was once one of them, and have raised a couple of them and are proud to be the Nanna of a couple more of them.  BUT.......and it is a very big BUT, do I want to be sold to by them ? this thought came to me from the recent announcement that Kendall Jenner is now the new face of Estee Lauder, don't get me wrong I have nothing personally against Miss Jenner and have been known on more than one occasion to watch the antics of her family on the telly box, But do I aspire to look like her ?  nope, Estee Lauder has and always will remain one of my favourite brands, I have grown up with it, my mother aspired to being able to afford to use it other than Christmas and Birthdays :)

As a youngster I worked on the counter for Revlon and my co worker on the Estee Lauder Counter was a goddess older than my Mum, she was simply stunning as an older woman and I know for a fact that people travelled to see her for advice and to purchase their products because she was aspirational. even to me in my flippin teens, I was in awe of her.

In those days I didn't think about ageing, as of course in our teens and twenties it seemed so very far away and something to worry about later, I do understand nowadays even my grandaughter in her early twenties is already thinking about anti-age products for gawds sake !

It is all good that girls now know, not to smoke, too much of the happy juice causes wrinkles, drink water etc etc, fabulous I wish I had known all that.

But a young girl representing a brand that to me is for grown up's seems a bit far fetched, I am not stupid and do understand the need to keep up with the times, appeal to a younger market blah blah, but bring out a new range just for them. can you imagine Benefit or MAC using a woman in her 60's as the face of their product ?

I am thinking out loud here with this post. I don't want it to sound as though I think brands should be age pigeon holed, but I do think they need to give thought to their existing customer base, and also to where the money is, we have paid our dues and are now in the market to treat ourselves.

Rant over lol. please, please let me know your thoughts on this one, I am happy for you to disagree with me, as maybe there is something I am just not seeing here.

Ciate Big Beauty Bus Nail Polish Gift Set

Ok, I know it's not really acceptable to use the C word in August, It's not a word I usually use until at least the end of October.........However, this I had to share with you, if you are like me and have teen girlie's in the family this is an ideal stocking filler, and I do believe will make you seem hip n trendy in the cred department.

Beautifully packaged with a range of fabulous mini colour pots, Ciate are a brilliant brand with long lasting wear, excellent coverage and a really nice wide brush for ease of use.

Sunday Bargains | Primark | H&M | Debenhams

Going shopping on Sunday's especially when you don't actually need anything is the time to mooch and get some serious bargains, coz lets be right, if you were looking you wouldn't find them !

First things first,  I always start in Primark, which actually is pretty dumb, as I end up back at the car park dropping off my big brown paper bags before heading off to any other shops,  Today was no exception, although most of my bags were my Grandaughters as she is heading off for a camping week with scouts, and of course you really need  new clothes for camping !  (shakes head)
I was quite restrained but managed to pick up some serious bargains. I have never tried make up from Primark, but last week I grabbed a lip liner for £1.00 that will match any one from MAC in terms of glide appeal, brilliant.

This week I was shocked to discover that a company could actually produce a nail polish for 80P, flipping heck, and a massive range of colours, I did have a little play today and so far so good, nice coverage, decent brush, time will tell :)  I also grabbed a little pot of what can only be described as shimmery shadow dust, I use MAC usually but for a measly quid I thought "how bad can it be ? "  and lo and behold it's not too shabby, not quite as shimmery as MAC but not bloody far off.  I also grabbed a new product for Primark again at the mental price of £1.50 a liquid Highlighter, it's lovely with a little sponge applicator
, beautifully shimmery. plus the tube is pink and rose gold so I didn't care if  it was rubbish it looked gorgeous lol. and next was the really rather cute silver and pearl necklace, the pearls sit just on your collar bone so looks as though you don't have a necklace on, brill, I love it ! and at £1.50 I love it even more :)

Who can leave Primark without shoes or sandals ? a pair of nude ballet pumps ended up in the big net bag at the princely sum of £3.50 !!!

The nude shimmery ballet pumps were in the 70% off sale in Debenhams at £16.40.

Talking of shoes......

I nipped into H&M and picked up the black suede heels that I was waiting to arrive in my size, and why wouldn't you at £14.99, mental price. the Coral Ballet pumps where again from the Debenhams sale at £6.20.
It could be said that I didn't need another 4 pairs of shoes, but I think you will agree that at the grand sum of  £41.09 it would have been daft not to :)
