Last week I was lucky enough to be invited to a stunning preview of The Perfume Shop Christmas offerings at the pop up store in Covent Garden. 

Of course there were lots of fabulous fragrances to try out some old favourites as well as some brand new discoveries for me, I indulged in a relaxing hand massage with Issey Myake fragrance cream, which had be struggling to stay awake!  The fragrances were all displayed by the mood emotions that they evoke, you know that feeling when a certain smell takes you back to a time and place you may have thought you'd forgotten?  fragrance memory has a brilliant way of staying with us allowing us to transport mentally back to a time or place that made us smile.

What struck me more than anything, and I am embarrassed to say this. I discovered that The Perfume Shop is much much more than it's name implies, I personally have only ever thought about when popping into the mall gift shopping for fragrance. Go online and just LOOK!  gifts galore from Pop up greeting cards to fluffy Unicorns and candles.  Something else I didn't know was that you can have your perfume bottles personalised to allow you to give a truly thoughtful gift along with a gift wrapping service.




Something else that it think is a fantastic idea is the " Try Me" service.  when you buy a fragrance with the try me symbol it arrives with a sample size bottle for you to try out just to make sure you will love the fragrance, if not simply return it, my first thought was how handy having a little sample bottle for your handbag!  that said The Perfume Shop have you covered in that department too, offering refillable atomisers designed to carry with you. Britta Cox Aquis Towel

Hi Loves

Last week I had the pleasure of attending an event and met with the fabulous owner and inventor Britta Cox of Aquis Towels. Held at the Union Club in Soho we chatted endlessly about the upcoming news for the brand.  You would have seen me write about these previously here.  I am lucky enough to own both a towel and a turban, neither could I live without! I can been seen travelling from the gym with my head wrapped in Aquis, If I ever get stopped by the police it could make an interesting conversation.

Bali Balm

Firstly my apologies for being AWOL this last week it has been manic, really good fun with some great PR events but it meant I was in London every day last week and didn't the a chance to sit down and write. I will of course be filling you in on weeks events.

I have recently been enjoying Bali Balm in Bergamot & Grapefruit. This weather is a killer on the lips, you only need to be a couple of hours out in the wind with bare lips and they suffer! Made in Bali and containing nut oil ( avoid if you have allergies) the softening and protecting properties of Bali Balm are brilliant, a little squeeze of the tube places the balm on the shaped applicator for easy application. Bergamot & Grapefruit has a gorgeous fragrance and a sweet but not sickly taste ( yum) suitable for both men and women this would make a great stocking filler at Christmas.

As you know I have a teeny weeny bit of an obsession for Too Faced Makeup, up until now it has only been something I could pick up either in Carnaby Street or else Sephora in the States, my trolley dolly granddaughter goes often and sends me pictures to tempt me!  Also limited selections of pieces are available online from a couple of beauty retailers, however I like to look, touch and try before making a purchase if at all possible.  I was delighted to hear about the Bluewater Store opening and got the Mister to take me up on Sunday ( I don't do motorways)

The store is small but absolutely beautiful as you would expect, it is a girlie dream full of gorgeous colours and of course the fragrances of the makeup that Too Faced are famous for.  Albeit compact there is everything you could possibly want and more! The girls were fabulous and no they didn't know I would be writing about them!  everything is laid out in ranges, so if you wanted Peach & Cream it was all there, chocolate?  dive right on in, and the Tutti Frutti was all there to be sniffed and sampled alongside some fabulous Christmas exclusives that would only usually be seen on the other side of the pond.

Talking About The Menopause With Superdrug

As you will know if you follow me on Instagram, I recently attended an event held by Superdrug to discuss all things Menopause, The panel of speakers was a really interesting line up of women who all had stories to tell. Chaired by Jo Elvin Editor of You Magazine, Irene Shelly, Editor in Chief of Black Beauty and Hair, Dr Pixie McKenna, Superdrug Heath Ambassador, Sarah Vine, co founder of Get The Gloss and Daily Mail Columnist alongside Joanne Mackie Superdrugs Director of Customer Services & People all had hilarious stories to tell.

The thing with Menopause and Peri Menopause is that it does need talking about, it's not a thing that we need to hide away or feel embarrassed about as it comes to us all in the end, the same as periods, all part of the joy's of being female! it's how we, and those around us deal with it seems to be they key to making life a lot easier, one of the questions asked was "Do you discuss it with your family" in my case YES!  they all know that at any moment the windows will be flung open seeing me gasping for air and almost ripping my clothes off yelling "I'm having a turn!"  I even have what is affectionately known by the family as the Menopause fan, it's a cheap 2 Euro fan that I bought a few years ago in Spain, that has a permanent spot in my lounge, I only have to ask my Granddaughter to pass the Menopause fan and she knows what it is :)

It's no secret when I'm suffering ha ha.

I am lucky in that as a family nothing is sacred we are a group of over sharers, I know that isn't always the case with some people but you should be able to share and not suffer alone.  If you are a regular reader here you may remember that last year I did a post on a report that Superdrug produce every year where they survey their customers to get feedback on what we think at age 50 plus, they call this report #LifePlus and I personally love it. You get the sense of not being alone in your thoughts and know that other ladies have the same things going on and you are not the crank you possibly thought you were.

Superdrug are so supportive of our generation with the report they have also produces supplements specifically designed to help us through Menopause, skincare designed especially for our flushed and sensitive faces and on the whole offer a huge ton of support.  There is more to the company than you would ever think when you pop in for a packet of aspirin, there are teams that work behind the scenes aiming to make life easier for us.

A few facts that came out of the report.

7. 80% believe keeping active is key to youthfulness.
8. 68% said hot flushes are the most common Menopause symptom.
9. 55% thought that getting older got bad press.
10. 29% said good make up is key to staying youthful.

Colour Freedom Semi Permanent Hair Colour

Hiya Lovelies

As you know I am a huge fan of grey hair be it natural or dyed, and constantly colour my own hair, which is almost grey now, at least I think it is, I have been colouring it grey for the last couple of years and don't have a problem with roots so I have to assume they ate coming through now grey or at least peppery.


I have always used  and this time was asked to try out a temporary wash in , I chose the shade Silver Blonde, in hindsight I should have gone for deeper grey for a more drastic look. The super large tube is designed to allow you to use it a few times but my hair is incredibly porous and soaks up product like a sponge so for the sake of the review I used a full tube, Incredibly easy to apply, and super quick to rinse out, even on rinsing I knew this product was good, my hair felt like silk as I rinsed with not a single tangle or knot, my fingers slipped through my hair like a dream and the shine this product produced was out of this world  I have to be honest and say I will continue to use it for this reason alone in between colouring, my hair has never felt so soft and shiny.  The product contains both Argan Oil and Shea Butter for moisturising and I have to admit it certainly does the job.

You can see from the picture that Colour Freedom has removed the yellow tones.



One of the best things about Colour Freedom as a hair care range is that the price point is super reasonable and they do what they say on the box, nothing harsh just good solid colours, I have used a huge amount of various greys especially when I first set out to turn my bleached blonde head into silver grey and have stuck with this brand as to me it can't be beaten, trust me I've tried!

The colour will last 6- 10 washes, I found it more 6 than 10 but in all honesty am OK with that as the condition remained and it has come round to colouring time anyway.

Pixi Beauty MatteLast Liquid Lip Collection

Here we have the complete range of Pixi Beauty MatteLast Liquid Lips to talk about. If you a regular to my little interwebby space you will know from previous posts, I am not a lover of Matte Lipsticks, and I will tell you why. Bearing in mind this is personal to me, my lips at 61 years old and not as plump as maybe they once were, void of fillers and generally just as you would expect a lip of this age to be. Matte lipsticks age me, in fact the ones I have tried make me look like the flipping crypt keeper!  they are dry, go patchy, flaky, crusty and generally look awful on me.  Recently I attended and event for JD Williams and as a retailer of Pixi there was a makeup artist doing demo's etc, and while she was trying to encourage me to try these Liquid Lips out I was adamant that I didn't want to as I knew they wouldn't suit me and I didn't want to be embarrassed by saying I hated them. What a MUG! and I am cross with myself as it's a typical reaction from me to decide I don't like something before trying it. To my mind they were for gorgeous young things and I was having non of it.




Months later..........a beautiful Parcel arrived from Pixi with the complete MatteLast Collection, while I was incredibly grateful to have received such a gorgeous gift, it ran through my mind that this could be awkward as I hate Matte Lips on me.  How wrong can you be - these are not just Matte Liquid Lipsticks, these are Pixi Matte Liquid Lipsticks..........you have to read that in the Marks and Spencer advert voice for it to work lol.





Firstly the applicator on these is brilliant, the doe foot is shaped in an open oval with a fabulous point allowing you to apply the lipstick precisely without the need for a liner, it applies wet and creamy and dries down within about 5 minutes, the pigment is out of this world and you simply need one dip of the applicator to get a smooth even completed finish, it's 100% comfortable, does not feel dry and even after a 10 hour wear with food and drink it wasn't flaky, crusty or patchy, it did wear a tiny bit from food, but nothing horrible and didn't need instantly touching up at all.  Best of all it didn't creep into lines and highlight them as most matte lipsticks do. The range starts with the prettiest natural nude right through to the deepest berry there is a shade for everyone whatever your preference. I am delighted to have tried these as it has given me a whole new perspective on mattes.

Fat Face Christmas

A while ago I attended an event for Fat Face who were showcasing their Christmas goodies, at the time the Summer was at it's best and we all sat on a rooftop garden after the event drinking prosecco enjoying the sunshine and discussing Christmas, as you do!

I have to be honest and say that I was delighted to have attended this event as I had no idea just how diverse Fat Face are as a brand, in my head it was just clothing, but no - it's so much more!
From tree hangers to handbags, mens toiletries, fluffy bed socks and so much much more everywhere I looked there was something different.  Interesting fact - Fat Face concentrate on real people in small Towns & Villages rather than huge London and Major City stores, they have maintained the vibe that made them famous in the first place and have stuck to their original traditions, giving them that natural gentle vibe that they have become famous for.

TWEEZY Facial Hair Remover

Hi Darlins,

I have to admit to being really really curious about this method of hair removal, so when Tweezy contacted me to try it out I instantly said yes please, bring on the spring!  well I didn't say the last bit that would have been odd!

Upper lip hair!!!!!!  I had never given it any thought until one day at our local shopping mall in front of what seemed like the whole flipping town I got my brows threaded, nothing unusual I hear you say, except on this occasion the lady said would you like your top lip done?  I have to admit to feeling a little put out that she was insinuating I had some sort of Magnum PI thing going on with my top lip, so out of sheer embarrassment I said yes........................Jesus Lord!  I nearly had a heart attack, the freaking pain was through the roof!  I would rather have given birth to my three children in one hit that suffer this pain.  Of course there I am in front of the whole COUNTY being made a show of, trying to sit still and look as though it's the most normal thing in the world to have hair ripped from under your nose, which I might add appeared to attached to every single nerve in my face including my bladder as I also wanted to pee!!!!!!  I wiped my tear stained eyes and paid my £10.00 while proceeding to do my shopping with a fuchsia top lip.

Moving on........fortunately nowadays things are a little better and having suffered my humiliation I have regularly dealt with the facial fuzz myself, no no nice lady, you can bugger right off!

I usually give it a little wax using the strips from NO MO Stache which I love, but now it was time to check out Tweezy. on first glance you are thinking what the hell, but once you get the hang of positioning the spring, it whips away hair in a split second.  I am not going to lie and say it's painless as I want you to come back to the blog and not curse me for lying, but the pain is livable for sure, it's more of a slight sting than real pain, and once done you really don't need to worry about doing it again for ages.  I do mine once every 3 months.  I would give this a try if it's an area you have to maintain it's definitely a handy little tool, and as far as cost goes, once you own it that's it, no more spending out.

I often find that powder highlighters tend to highlight imperfections and wrinkle and you have to be aware of this when applying, with these there is no such fear they will not creep into any lines or wrinkles and just sit on top of your foundation. There is little to no fallout with these to the point that you could easily apply them with your finger should you wish almost like a cream.
