Too Faced Peach Mist Mattifying Setting Spray

Too Faced has done it again!  I swear I don't know of any brand that causes more of a heart flutter than Too Faced, even the packaging causes a satisfied sigh. OK while I realise it's a bit OTT to fawn over make up products, but seriously how can you not?  even if you are not a massive make up fan Too Faced cries out to be owned, you would need to prise my collection from my cold dead hands before I would part with any of it............send help!

If you are wondering what a Peach Mist even is; it's a beautiful delicate mist that mattifies your make up, sets it and holds it in place until you decide it's time to remove it.  I have only on the last couple of years started using setting sprays, and trust me they VARY, I have recently tested one out from a really popular brand that was like using hairspray! even down to the fragrance, needless to say it won't reach the blog.  No such problem with the Too Faced Peach Mist, the fragrance as you would expect is the famous Peach that Too Faced are renowned for but this time mixed with Sweet Fig Cream, honestly you will want to spray it just to get a hit of the fresher than fresh fragrance.

Applied to the face 6-8 inches away, it is everso slightly wet so DON'T over do it! although it's tempting to go crazy just for the fragrance hit. You really don't need a lot of product for this to do it's job, the 120ml spray will last you forever.  The feeling is lightweight to the point that you don't even know you are wearing it.  Perfect for controlling oil during the day. I tend to go for dewy foundations and had the feeling that this would dull my make up, it didn't, it's so fine I would consider it suitable for any skin type, I didn't experience any unwanted shine through the day and I wore this for almost 12 hours!

Once you have tried it, trust me it will become a keeper.

I have been looking into the benefits of dry body brushing for the longest time, this natural way of removing dead skin cells, improving blood circulation and lymphatic drainage has been a wellbeing ritual for those in the know for years, I can forgive myself a little for being late to this party as I did attempt dry body brushing with a cheap hand held battery gizmo, that to be fair was more of a tickle than a brush!

This time I have been standing in the bath dry brushing as though my life depended on it!  what a satisfying experience, oh my goodness I knew I had dry skin, but seriously I am a flipping lizard, hence the standing IN the bath, I literally couldn't believe my eyes at how much I was shedding, come to think of it now I am writing this it's actually quite revolting and I should probably be embarrassed, ha!  you know by now I have no shame when it comes to over sharing.

My latest love is my BEAUTIFUL Aromatheraphy Associates Body Brush, it is a fabulously chunky wooden hand held brush with pure cactus bristles which leave your skin  feeling totally refreshed and alive ready to absorb your favoured moisturising method after showering. Here's the thing, don't think you can just pick up a brush and start scrubbing away at your skin as though it was laundry! NO, the method is to start are the ankles and work your way up towards the heart.  If you are interested there are lots of demonstration videos on YouTube, I didn't make one of these for you as nobody wants or needs to see that! - trust me LOL

 Applied every other week  in one or two coats ( I prefer two) either alone or under polish gives a great base/primer to the nails while working on repairing them at the same time, it somehow makes the nails feel more healthy and flexible while solving the troublesome ridges. It diffuses the colour of the natural nail making it appear healthier and masking any discolouration. Containing Collagen it helps promote moisture and smoothness to the nail.
I have to be honest here and say I have been using this mainly as a primer, it's great!  but it also means I know that the little bottle is providing me with two jobs in one.

Boots No7 Airbrush Away Foundation

As you already know I am a little bit obsessed with foundations, I have in my time probably bought hundreds, it started with Max Factor Pan Stick in my wayward youth and now I am constantly on the search for something that doesn't highlight lines and wrinkles like a flashing beacon. Not to hard to wish for I don't think?  However.........I am not about to spend in excess of £50.00 on what could be a huge mistake, to this end I am always looking on the drugstore displays for something new that might just be the holy grail, a couple of weeks ago I discovered Boots No7 Airbrush Away Foundation in the shade N159 Cool Vanilla.



This time around I was hoping for a bit less coverage than I usually go for as my thinking was to try and minimise the screwed up wrinkled paper bag look!  I am pleased to say that I have succeeded in my quest, now I am not saying this is the holy grail, but you know what?  it's not far off. I am loving it!



The foundation comes on a 30ml pipette glass bottle, is totally buildable, so if you want to layer it for more coverage you can do so easily without any rolling or pilling, it applies BEAUTIFULLY, leaving as it says on the jar an airbrushed finish. I first tried it with my beloved Clarisonic  using the sonic foundation brush, I will write about this gizmo at some stage, but I actually found the best application for the foundation was the old school way with fingers. It takes hardly any blending and gives you a dewy glow without being shiny or greasy looking, if you are a die hard Matte fan this won't be for you, but if you are looking to go Meghan Markle glow this really hits the spot.

I have given this a thorough trial checking it over a few days and obsessing with the mirror every couple of hours, it will not sit in lines or wrinkles and has a really good staying power even after a good 9 hour wear.

For the record, I dislike the term drugstore when used in the UK, we have Chemists but it really doesn't sound right lol.

Cosmetics a La Carte

This week I experienced the sheer joy that is Cosmetics a La Carte, based in the heart of Chelsea I was invited to an event to celebrate the new 60's inspired "Summer Of Love Collection" the timing couldn't have been more perfect with Chelsea being fully decorated in it's floral glory for the Summer of Love Week, incorporating the Chelsea Flower Show.




Cosmetics a La Carte was also in full bloom, with the most incredible vibe of flowers and love, we were treated to amazing cocktails which even included blooms!  The visit to the shop for me was a double winner, not only did I get to see the huge array of cosmetics on display I got a greater understanding of the brand and it's founder Lynne Sanders, a Chemist and Scientist with over 40 years in the beauty industry, her passion and love for cosmetics literally radiates, her vision is to create natural bespoke make up to suit any age.  You may not have heard of Cosmetics a La Carte as it is more known to make up artists and those "In the Know" but trust me, if you have ever struggled to find the perfect foundation or make up shades to suit and flatter your complexion you now know where to visit.  With it's own factory in Battersea South London, everything is manufactured to the highest quality standards and tailored specifically for you, if you have ever had a lipstick discontinued by another brand, fear not. Cosmetics a La Carte will replicate the exact shade for you!! 




Chatting with Lynne we managed a giggle about today's trends for heavy contouring and shades being beautiful for younger girls:  but as we get older subtle more natural looks are far more flattering for us "cough" mature ladies.  You can of course buy from the ready made collection of cosmetics, but the real beauty of the brand is having an appointment with a professional make up artist and having your shades designed just for you, and such an investment when you thing of the hundreds of pounds we waste over the years trying to find the holy grail foundation!  You can of course drop into the shop at anytime, but for a full consultation it's best to book beforehand to avoid disappointment especially if you are travelling into London.





This post was originally intended to showcase some products for you, but I wanted to give an insight into the company as I for one, found it totally fascinating and such a gorgeous opportunity to get your make up just right once and for all, it just goes to prove that us mere mortals can enjoy a bespoke service in comfortable beautiful surroundings.

What is wrong with us women?  why do we only worry about body parts when they become a problem?  we service our cars but neglect ourselves!

I don't ever recall thinking about my neck or decolletage until the day I looked in the mirror and thought, Christ I look like my Mum!  I think we have all had that moment, not in a derogatory way but in the way you notice your Mum's cheek is not as firm when you kissed her. It comes to us all, and sooner than we flippin think. 

I have discovered Dr. Ceuticals Neck & Chest Lift, a lightweight cream that is designed for this much neglected area. Aldi Lacura Naturals Eyeshadow Palette 2

I wanted to get this to you asap, these palettes were released in store yesterday, 17/5/2018 there are two in the range, my local store had sold out of the Natural 1 on the first day!  I managed to grab this Natural 2 for the blog. I have such a love hate with Aldi, while I love them with a passion the stock levels drive me insane.

Moving on, if you want to pick up this palette at the crazy price of £5.99 here are the swatches. What I will say is the brush is amazing, it will stay with me long after the palette and is identical to the ones that come in the Urban Decay palettes, in fact the brush alone is worth the price.

The powder is a little chalky as you would expect, but the pigments are reasonable, I have shown a small selection of swatches that I applied damp. In my opinion this gives a far better payoff and makes the glitters pop.

Why do we admire French women so much?  is it their elegance?  seemingly effortless beauty or is it all a myth? the effortless beauty part I believe to be a myth, the French are passionate about skincare far more than make up. Finally we have French Pharmacy skincare easily available in the UK in the name of SVR Laboratorie Dermatologique  like me you have probably not heard of this unless you are a regular in France and have seen the brand in the Chemist's. Once a small family firm back in 1962 SVR where one of the first brands to bring medicine to skincare. Since then the brand has become synonymous with skincare that addresses every need.

The range is vast, so whatever your concern SVR have a solution.

In this post I am bringing you 4 products that I have been testing out over the past couple of months, originally I was unsure if these products would reach the blog as I had not heard of them before and wanted to give them a thorough trial, I am delighted to say they are nothing less than outstanding and a discovery that will now stay with me, with prices starting at £5.00 it is a joy to find something this good that doesn't cost hundreds! 

SVR Laboratorie Dermatologique

SVR PHYSIOPURE Cleansing Foaming Gel 200ml

This gel foam cleanser contains Oxygenating Magnesium, and is suitable for all skin types,  anyone who has ever experienced an Oxygen facial will know the benefits of pure Oxygen and the Trace element Magnesium is the key to this cleanser being a long term benefit to the skin rather than just a cleanser. You literally need the tiniest amount which will make this whopping 200ml last you forever, apply to a damp face and watch the gel turn into the richest creamiest foam. Just those three words are enough to make the most sensitive skins itch!  worry not, this cleanser is suitable for even the most sensitive irritated skins, it is 100% soap free so leaves the skin feeling clean, soft and balanced with no signs of redness or itching.

SVR DENSITIUM Eye Contour Cream 15ml

The Densitium range is especially suited to mature skin. This eye cream addresses 3 main issues, dark circles, puffiness and wrinkles.  It contains Hyaluronic Acid and Bio Calcium ( see below)  Smoothed around the orbital bone and unusually gently patted onto lids this lightweight formula absorbs easily and leaves the eye area looking and feeling hydrated, did this make lines look any better?  I hear you ask. 100% yes! instantly noticeable in hydration which obviously smoothed the lines somewhat but over time I can truthfully say I have seen a visible difference to the depth of the main lines around my eyes, as you all know from previous posts I am not a fan of eye creams and don't reach for them on a daily basis, this one has been on my eyes twice a day! be careful though, one pump will do both eyes, so be careful not to waste it.

Just a note, I had never heard of calcium being applied topically so I did a little research and this is the answer in case you are interested.

Antioxidants prevent damage to the skin's components such as collagen. ... Topical calcium products therefore provide anti-ageing benefits and enhance skin cancer protection. Calcium is an extremely powerful tool for skin rejuvenation and, in the not too distant future, it will receive media attention and marketing focus.

SVR DENSITIUM Creme Riche 50ml

If you have dry mature or very dry skin this rich cream will be a lifesaver!  it's not kidding when it says rich, the formula is thick and dense which when applied instantly leaves you thinking it will be greasy and leave a thick film, it is in fact the opposite the cream absorbs leaving you with soft supple feeling skin that is immediately hydrated. Again containing Hyaluronic Acids and Bio Calcium this paraben free lifesaver will see you reaching for it on a daily basis to keep the skin supple, firm and fresh. Now the company do not say on the packaging when you should use this cream, I have been using it as both a day moisturiser and a night cream, as a daytime cream give it a couple of minutes to fully absorb and you are good to go on with your normal make up routine, I did, both day and night double this cream with LIFTIANE Serum. the effects are ridiculous, I can see a huge improvement in both texture and firmness.





SVR LIFTIANE Serum 30ml

I have saved the best till last!  If you buy nothing else this year, buy yourself this serum!!!  Oh my lord, the second it hits your skin you will see an immediate lifting and firming effect, and over time the benefits have only increased. The serum contains pure reversatrol at 1% we already know the benefits of this ingredient that comes from the skin of red grapes, alongside Hyaluronic Acid this powerful combination works to lift the skin and give it a fresh glow like nothing else I have tried. although this is obviously not a hand cream I wanted to show you the instant effect of applying it to the back of one hand against the other.


To Sum up, I am over the moon to have discovered this brand, and can honestly say I will be looking far deeper into SVR to discover and bring you other products.

IGK Hair

If you are a keen social media follower you would have heard news of IGK Hair or maybe seen their instagram, if not - you are in for a treat.

It's not often that something really new and exciting falls into my hands but THIS brand!  seriously, talk about cutting edge!  I am not going into the whole history of this brand on this post as I could be here for ever, these guys don't sit still for a moment. The brand name is an acronym of the 4 owners names and IGK is currently available exclusively in the UK at SpaceNK however.............expect them to become a household name soon in the UK as once tried you will wonder how you lived without them,  remember the other 3 letter brand name that hit the hair market some years ago that possibly every woman and her dog now own?  this in my opinion will be the same.

Let me just start by saying I personally loathe dry shampoo, there I said it, probably not what you were expecting to hear but it's the truth, all the girls in my family think I am odd, they are all fans of various brands and use the stuff as though it were a part of any beauty routine. I have over the years tried some, not all obviously but most of what I have tried has left me looking as through I have rolled on the floor of a baby powder factory, and quite frankly left me feeling nothing less than gross and grubby.  OK, I know I am old but there it is, I am the first to admit when I am wrong and I must be honest and say that I approached this brand with a bit of a curled up lip, I fully expected to hate it, why wouldn't I?  after all I hate dry shampoo.

Lets start with IGK Jet Lag Invisible Dry Shampoo 

Jet Lag is what I would say the first level in the IGK dry shampoo story, it is for days when your hair isn't dirty but needs a little refresh, lightweight formula with finely milled Volcanic ash, you will hardly know you have use this but your hair will thank you, it leaves your hair feeling as though it has just been shampooed, ideal for normal to dry scalps with fine to medium texture hair.

Cleansing, texturising and volumizing are the features of this fabulous green can, perfect for normal to oily scalps with fine to coarse textured hair, a light cleanser that easily absorbs oil and sweat leaving you with  fresh looking hair.

This is where we bring out the "Big Guns"  If you are a fitness bunny you will 100% know the frustration of gym hair, your hair is clean when you start but you end your workout with limp sweaty lifeless hair! that really does not smell its best.  This is your solution, also if you have been very naughty and partied so hard you really have left your hair past it's wash by date, this can is for you. This heavy duty spray will absorb any signs of grease, oil and odour. White Tea powder soothes the scalp leaving you able to carry on with your life without the embarrassment of grim hair.  Perfect for Oily scalps, fine to thick, medium and coarse textured hair.

I have to confess that my mind has been completely changed by these sprays, my hair felt clean and soft, it really didn't feel dirty and smelled fabulous. I honestly believe that it probably does your hair good not to over wash it, and I am now converted.
If you know you are falling into bed when you should have washed your hair, these sprays can be used while you sleep to absorb oil overnight leaving you able to get those extra zzzzz's in the morning.
